Ode to Ijebu Ancestors


To the west of river Niger and not so far;

A fairy town prevails and mightily thrives;

On this land, the britons barely sire;

Only when they came with Maxim and treacherous knives;

Unfaltering the goddess stands;

Legions of dictators choked Yemoyi with powder;

This the goddess detests and they got the lands;

The wailing strings spanned at imagbon louder;

I heard their loud eerie cry from miles away mixed with crushes of bones and it's sultry damp; . My clansmen were tortured, massacred and wasted with their bodies littered at the cathedral turned mortuary; . If only these were caused by the gods we could have appeased Amadioha and Ógun at its sanctuary; .
